About MWTEC
A statewide intermediary strengthening Michigan's workforce training ecosystem through employer-led collaboration.
Who We Are
Our Story
THE CHALLENGE
A Decentralized System
Michigan’s workforce and education systems are shaped by strong local leadership, a highly rural geography, and an autonomous network of community colleges and Michigan Works agencies. These features allow regions to respond to local needs, but they can also make access to training uneven across the state. As a result, learners and employers may encounter differences in availability, pathways, and alignment depending on where they live.
THE SOLUTION
MWTEC Connects the Pieces
MWTEC helps bridge these gaps by expanding access, coordinating employer-led collaboratives, and supporting consistent, statewide pathways—so all Michiganders have equitable opportunities to pursue education and careers in the fields of their choice.
THE IMPACT
Real Results
Today, MWTEC has served over 650 learners with a 90% completion rate and 99% job placement. 75% of our learners are adults — many without a GED or re-entering education. Every program is aligned to employer demand and built with employers, including the nation's first Apprenticeship Surgical Technology Program.
Our Mission
To empower education and training providers to support employer workforce talent needs through comprehensive collaborative solutions.
What We Believe
Workforce training is most effective when it is:
Built with employers
Aligned to real labor market demand
Accessible to adult learners
Scalable across regions
Connected to credentials and employment
What We Do
Connector & Accelerator
We serve as a connector and accelerator — partnering with community colleges, adult education providers, training organizations and employers to expand pathways into high-demand careers.
Supporting providers with employer engagement
Helping scale successful programs across regions
Building shared infrastructure that complements existing systems
In partnership with community colleges, strengthening their ability to serve
What We Don’t Do
Clarity on Our Scope
To be effective partners, it's important to be clear about what falls outside our role:
Directly employ or hire workers
Replace existing educational institutions
Provide direct financial aid to students
Operate training classrooms or facilities
What Guides Us
Collaborative
The best solutions come from bringing diverse partners together to address everyone’s needs.
Mission-Driven
Every decision centers on improving workforce outcomes for Michigan communities.
Community-Focused
Creating pathways that benefit individuals and strengthen local economies.
